This is a message to everyone aged 22 and under:

Life can be challenging and hard! If you don’t start taking things seriously now and begin figuring things out, you’ll waste a lot of time doing nothing. Time doesn’t wait for anyone—it keeps moving forward.

So, what do I mean by this? I have two younger sisters, one is 17 and the other is 19. I try to teach them life skills, and I’ve even given them a job where I pay them to learn responsibility, commitment, and business skills.

Here’s my message to you:
Start being committed. Learn something new every day. Yes, enjoy your teenage years, but also take the time to prepare for your future. Life is a marathon, and you need to get ahead before it overwhelms you.

For example, I have a friend whose younger brother makes over 700,000 Tsh per month. He’s just 17 years old, a website designer, and also invests in stocks.

You don’t have to drop everything and start working on your future right now, but you can make small changes. Dedicate one day a week—let’s say Monday—to learning. After school, put away your phone, turn off the TV, and focus. Spend just five hours or less learning a new skill. Trust me, by the time you’re 24, you’ll be unstoppable!

You can still enjoy parties, scroll through Instagram, talk about boys or girls, study for school, and hang out with friends. But when it’s Monday, take it seriously. Don’t go to sleep until you’ve learned something new.

Here’s a list of skills you can start with:

  • Business skills

  • Accounting skills

  • Computer skills

  • Sales skills

  • Marketing skills

  • Investing skills

  • Administrative skills

  • Creative skills (like content creation, graphic design, website development)

  • Writing skills

  • Language skills

There’s no job that doesn’t benefit from at least one of these skills. If there is, well, that’s a missed opportunity.

Where to learn these skills:

  • Alison

  • Coursera

  • Skillshare

  • YouTube

  • Google

  • Udemy

  • Duolingo (for learning languages)

Buy a notebook and pen, set a schedule, and take action on what you learn. For example, if you’re learning marketing, start your own Instagram account and apply what you’ve learned.

Start now, even if it’s small steps. Consistency is what will make you stand out.

Additional Tips:

  • Stay disciplined: Use alarms or reminders to stick to your schedule.

  • Pair learning with action: Each time you learn, apply it practically to ensure retention.

  • Network early: Reach out to people in your field of interest for guidance and advice.

  • Take breaks: Avoid burnout by balancing work and relaxation.

Keep pushing forward, and don’t underestimate the power of small, consistent efforts!
