This year has been one of the most educational and craziest years of my adulthood. I’m sharing these 10 lessons with you so we can walk into 2025 without repeating past mistakes and move forward in life.
If you prefer watching over reading, check out my latest YouTube video where I dive deeper into the topics discussed in this blog.
Lesson 1: Someone always has it harder
Between January and May, I learned that while my hardships felt unbearable, someone else was going through worse. Life can feel unfair when your career, health, or goals seem stuck, and nothing works. It’s okay to cry and feel frustrated, but don’t let your struggles define you or make you give up.
When I returned from surgery in India, I had no clients. I fell into depression, waking up late, living in chaos, and mindlessly scrolling social media. My mom’s heartfelt words about my lack of motivation jolted me. I decided to stop the pity party, and today I work with both local and international clients.
Tip: Whenever you feel overwhelmed, remember that resilience builds strength. Take small steps to get back on track—wake up earlier, clean your space, and focus on what you can control.
Lesson 2: Never say never
In October, I got my first international client. I almost turned it down because of imposter syndrome, doubting my abilities. My mom encouraged me to try, even if I failed. So, I took the job, and it’s been a great experience.
Tip: When you feel unqualified or scared to try something new, remind yourself that failure is just a lesson. Take the leap—you never know how it might turn out!
Lesson 3: Set realistic goals
Every year, we write down New Year’s resolutions, but often they’re unrealistic. Without a clear roadmap, you’ll struggle to achieve your goals. This year, one of my goals was to adopt healthy habits, but I failed because I didn’t have a plan.
Tip: Break your goals into small, actionable steps. For example, if your goal is to get fit, start by walking 15 minutes a day or drinking more water. Gradual progress adds up.
Lesson 4: Actions speak louder than words
It’s easy to say, “I want to start a business,” but words alone won’t make it happen. Take action! Even small steps like planning and organizing can get you closer to your goals.
Tip: Don’t wait for the perfect moment—start now. Use weekends or evenings to research, strategize, or test your ideas.
Lesson 5: Health is everything
I started 2024 in a hospital bed, surrounded by medical equipment instead of family. All the hard work and sleepless nights from 2023 meant nothing because my health wasn’t there.
Tip: Prioritize your health. Schedule regular checkups, move your body daily, and eat balanced meals. Mental health matters too—take breaks and manage stress.
Lesson 6: Start saving
One of my biggest regrets this year was not saving enough. Saving isn’t just for emergencies—it’s for growth and future investments.
Tip: Open a savings account or use mobile money apps to put aside even small amounts weekly or monthly. Automate your savings if possible.
Lesson 7: The more skills, the more income
Investing in new skills can open doors to more opportunities. This year, I wanted to learn photography but didn’t. Later, I had to outsource a photography job for a client—something I could have done myself if I had the skill.
Tip: Pick one or two skills to learn next year, even if they’re unrelated to your current work. Platforms like YouTube and Coursera make learning affordable and accessible.
Lesson 8: Starting out is lonely
When I began learning marketing in 2021, no one supported me—not even my family. But once they saw results, they became my biggest cheerleaders.
Tip: Trust your vision even if others doubt you. Surround yourself with people who inspire and encourage you, whether they’re friends, mentors, or online communities.
Lesson 9: Family should be your best friend
Not everyone has a close family, but if you’re lucky enough to have people who genuinely care about you, cherish them. They’ll support you in ways no one else can.
Tip: Strengthen your relationships by communicating openly and spending quality time together. A supportive family can make tough times easier.
Lesson 10: God is everything
This year, I turned to God more than ever. I prayed and fasted, asking Him to open doors for my business. When my first client paid a low fee, I hesitated but accepted it. Soon after, more clients followed.
Tip: Trust God’s timing and have faith in the process. Even small blessings can lead to bigger ones.
Final Thoughts
These 10 lessons shaped me in 2024, and I’m determined not to repeat past mistakes in 2025. I hope they inspire you to reflect on your year and start the next one with purpose.
